Embassy & consulate legalisation

Full legalisation chain for countries that do not accept apostilles — ministries, embassies and consulates.

When a document will be used in a country that is not party to the Hague Convention — the United Arab Emirates or Qatar, for example — an apostille is not enough. A multi-step legalisation is required: certification by the competent domestic authorities, then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and finally by the embassy or consulate of the country where the document will be used.

Each embassy has its own rules, processing times, forms and fees, and they change often. We keep track of those requirements, prepare the documents and translations in the required form and submit them on your behalf. If the country has no mission in Skopje, we arrange legalisation through its embassy accredited to the region, with the help of our offices abroad.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries require legalisation instead of an apostille?

Countries that are not party to the Hague Convention, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and many countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The list changes, so we check it for every document.

How long does legalisation take?

It depends on the number of steps and on the embassy. We will give you a realistic estimate together with the quote.

Do I have to go to the embassy in person?

In most cases, no. We submit the documents ourselves on the basis of your authorisation.
